Motion pictures were first presented to society in New York City in 1888 by Thomas Edison. It brought a visual element to storytelling and literature. Something new and exciting that people could collectively join in viewing. The power of motion pictures I believe caused a change in how people viewed others. Instead of always listening to information or entertainment you could see it and some say that seeing is believing.

Motion pictures provide audiences with the ability to travel the world, experience tragedy, love and several other emotions without leaving a theater. Motion pictures are all over the world and easily accessible. Society loves motion pictures but the collective amusement of sitting in a movie theater and enjoying a movie is dying in our world. Generation Z and millennials have formed a society that wants things instantaneously and at their own leisure. Motion pictures will still be a thing but when it comes to movie release dates and the attraction of a movie theater, I believe in the next 20 years it will be a dying business. If we look back at history, live attractions were at the epicenter of entertainment. Even as far back to the Roman empire and coliseums. Live entertainment slowly died out because of changes in the wants of generations and you can say the same for the viewing of live motion pictures.

I am a heavy movie lover and I’ve enjoyed that sort of entertainment but I don’t necessarily enjoy going to theaters. I’ve lost the passion and interest of theaters because I just don’t have the time anymore.
How often do you go to the movies?

I really enjoyed how you described the experience of movie viewing. It ‘allows you to travel the world’ while watching from wherever you are. Before the pandemic, I would go to movies about once a month. I enjoyed the social experience and the nostalgic feeling of going to a movie theatre. Now I go on Amazon Prime to watch movies, usually every few weeks so I can pause and start what I’m watching again to accommodate my schedule.

I go to the movies pretty often. It has always been my comfort place that brings forth so much creativity. I can’t even imagine a world without the movie theater, so this pandemic frightens me of its uncertain future. Going to the movie theater has always been a family event that planned the day before ensure the expected theatre, time, and how many of us were going. And if it was a great movie such as “Get Out” or “Black Panther,” this was mostly a planned event that ensures our spots the first Friday the movie was out.

Pre-Covid I hardly went to the movies because they were an hour away growing up. Now i’d much rather just stay in and watch the same movie unless it’s brand new and has some really big hype over it. I am a movie lover but am not the biggest fan of the theatre. I’d rather feel completely comfortable and take everything at my own discretion and pace while enjoying the movie.

Before Covid I rarely went to the movies. I would occasionally go with my girlfriend to see some new movies, but as I talked about in my article I am not a huge fan of movie theatres. I would prefer to stream it or pay to see it at my house. Wear comfy clothes and stay on the couch rather than drive to the movies and deal with the public.

I don’t go to the movies every often. Maybe twice a year I would say. But that has not stopped me from watching movies. I think it is cool that we can just watch movies on our computers or phones whenever we want because then we do get to experience all these other worlds and cultures etc.
