As it became more accessible to contact the world via the internet, all any tech company wanted to do was improve it. But now, as it becomes more advanced, we are starting to think improving the internet every year is probably not such a good idea.

The internet is a collection of a million different apps and websites. Making things such as a shopping, seeing family members across the world through a video chat, or connecting with them through apps such as snapchat, face book, or Instagram a lot easier. We can contact anyone we want throughout the world in a matter of seconds. We can show everyone in the world what we are doing in real time thorough stories on snapchat, lives on Instagram, and just any post you make on Instagram. But is this necessarily the best thing. With technology rapidly growing more people are getting their hands on it. Is this the best thing, with small children seeing the violent, explicit, harassing adult world they are not yet apart of? You may think small children and infants would not get their hands on any type technology device, but according to a study done by the Erikson institute, 85% of parents allow their kids to use technology devices. These kids could click one certain apps or websites by mistake and end up seeing things they are not suppose to be seeing. Even for young adults and up, people like to be rude and disrespectful behind a screen and that has leaded to suicide more than enough times.

Overall, social media is a very risky thing to play with considering how easy it is to look things up or talk to people you have never even met.

When we think of the internet, we just think of a million computers connected to each other ran by other computers. But, that is not necessarily the case. There are lots of things that are posted to the internet and immediately taken down for explicit content, and that’s not done by computers. It is done by people. These people determine what goes on the internet and what does not. But, what makes what they allow and what they don’t the right decision.

Lots of inappropriate and explicit images and videos are attempted to be uploaded to the internet everyday and these people decide whether posting it would be appropriate for people to view or not. They have to take into account young children seeing these images and videos and also adults. If a video is posted about a murder, it could help the law find the person who murdered the other person, but the down side is a young child could see this gruesome video and it could possible effect what they think is ok and could attempt murder later on because they just see the video. They will not look up to see if that person was charged with first degree murder or any charges at all. Why do these people get to decide what we see and what we do not. It is almost like a digital dictatorship. Some of the things that they do not allow us to see could spread awareness about the certain struggles of another country.

Not only does this effect the minds of the internet viewers, but also the people deciding if it should be posted or not. These people view these images everyday affecting their own minds and giving them different disorders such as anxiety, stress, PTSD, etc. They are in more danger because there is no one monitoring what they see. They have to see literally everything that is posted and they have to decide what the rest of the world sees.

Television has come along way since it was created in 1972. The first purpose of the tv was to just take videos and broadcast them to the world so you did not have to necessary be at that place to see something happen like a concert, or the space shuttles at NASA take off. But, it has now also become a source of entertainment more than anything. It has become much more than pictures on a screen.

For one thing, tv is used as a source of bonding between families. For things like movie night or just sitting on the couch around the day, your entire family can be watching something you all enjoy and laugh about it, or maybe it is something relatable specifically to your family.

Another thing that the television has helped aid is the communication across the world. You can turn on the news or any type of informational show and learn about what is going on in the world or in your country or in your state, or even just in your county. Television can also be knowledgeable in the sense of learning. There are lots of different programs about nature documentaries, history shows, even children’s shows implement some kind of learning for the child. A tv might also not be used for just watching shows. They have come to develop tv’s that you can hook up other devices with to project them onto the tv to make it bigger like in a classroom setting. Making it easier for a class to learn.

Television has come such a long way in only 50 years and is one of the most useful tools we have as people. Who knows what the future might have in store for what the television might be capable of.

Music is one thing in this world that everyone can relate to with someone else. It is one thing that can bring massive amounts of people together and just make them forget about everything around them and just enjoy the moment.

Music has been around since the start of time and was created for humans by humans because it makes us feel warm, and just makes us move in ways nothing else does. The rhythm, the base, the chorus, the beat, everything about it is specifically designed to be put together and just make something that is appealing to your emotion and mind.

Each different style of music has its own eye catching or appealing look to them to get an audience. For example, rock and roll has people with long hair, loud music, tank tops, skinny jeans, piercings, makeup etc. Also, hip hop has a thuggish/ gangster look, i. e. N.W.A, Notorious B.I.G, Dr. Dre, etc. These certain aspects bring in their audience because that is what their audience likes and think is “cool” at the time. In a way, music is trend setting.

As we advance further and further into the future, we find ourselves straying farther from elements of the past, specifically literature. In the past 200 years we have upgraded from writing on a piece of paper with a feather dipped in ink with candle light, to having any piece of knowledge in the world at our finger tips. Humans are straying away from books because technology is growing and is just so much easier to use then having to read a whole book or skimming through it to find the one part you need. Libraries are becoming more and more useless are we advance our technology and at some point in the near future will be going out of business. With things like nooks and kindle’s, you can just buy books on these devices and store them on there and not have to leave the comfort of your own home.

Literature can not be taken for granted though. It can be very knowledgeable and informative and I think kids should read more. The library piece is what can be taken out. We do not need to go anywhere when we have the most valuable piece of technology at our finger tips and can look up anything within seconds.

Hi guys, my name is Talyn Pierce and I am in my second year here at Alfred. I am currently a communications major with hopes of one day being a broadcaster of some sort. I went to high school an hour and a half away from here so the area is nothing new to me. I played lacrosse all through out high school and decided to continue it here.
