Facebook was created to be a way for college kids to find other college kids. In the documentary, “The Facebook Dilemma (Part 1),” Mark Zuckerberg begins by explaining that in order to make this work, he needed people’s information. So, he needed to make the website interesting enough that people wanted to become a part of it and thus sharing their own information. As we all know, facebook took off. However, now it has become a corporation. It was no longer the innocent and useful tool Zuckerberg created it to be. The issue soon changed from, keeping it interesting enough so that people want to be a part of it to keeping it interesting enough so that people want to continue to use it.
As a result, more and more information was required and then shared. Keeping it interesting for everyone evolved into creating algorithms to make sure each person has their own personalized Facebook where they see what is interesting to them.
The goal of Facebook quickly became a large driver of the company. Zuckerberg’s goal was to connect the whole world. The technology was there, and he made it happen. Facebook was created by this young man who did not think far enough into the future to see this dilemma coming. The assumption was that the more technology, the more connectivity, the better. Yet, we are starting to realize that there is a threshold that we have passed at some point.

It’s crazy to think about facebook has evolved, our lives are saved for data. No matter what your doing, you’re getting tracked. Its gets to the point where we have to question, is technology to this extent, is it better for us?

Facebook has been around ever since I can remember. It’s interesting how Zuckerberg’s goal of ‘connecting the entire world’ really just came into fruition. So much is on Facebook that it can feel like your missing out if you don’t have one. I think I made mine when I was 15.

It is interesting to see how Facebook was created and the main goal off the app to begin with. Zuckerberg as a human, way before his time in the same sense that bowie was way ahead of the times in music. The app, in my opinion took a turn for the worst around 2016. I don’t think the social media companies should continue to evolve. What I mean is they should just stay what they were created to be and nothing more. Strictly for people to share their lives with their friends online.

Facebook is definitely one of the more interesting social media platforms of our generation because of high widely spread the organization is into other branches of business. Who would’ve ever thought that a social media company would also one day have its own currency and be one of the biggest tech giants in the world. The amount of power that Facebook has is a blessing and a curse because you can’t be sure what will happen down the line especially with the controversies the company has already been involved in.
